Bitmine has taken its first step into Ethereum staking, depositing 74,880 ETH — valued at roughly $219 million — into the network’s Proof-of-Stake system, marking a significant shift in how the company manages its vast crypto reserves.
The transaction, tracked by blockchain analytics firm EmberCN, took place on 27/12/2025 and represents the company’s initial move to generate yield from its Ethereum holdings. Bitmine is currently the largest publicly known Ethereum treasury holder, with a total position of approximately 4.066 million ETH.
Testing staking with a $219m deployment
At current staking yields of around 3.12% annually, staking Bitmine’s full Ethereum treasury could generate close to 126,800 ETH per year. At today’s market prices, that would translate into roughly $370 million in annual staking rewards.
For now, however, Bitmine has opted for a measured approach. The 74,880 ETH deposit serves as a test of its staking infrastructure before potentially committing the remainder of its holdings. Because staked ETH cannot be withdrawn instantly and is subject to a variable exit queue, staking is best suited to assets intended for long-term holding rather than rapid liquidity needs.
Bitmine’s strategy mirrors long-term accumulation models seen elsewhere in crypto, notably Strategy’s systematic Bitcoin acquisitions. The decision to stake reinforces the view that Bitmine is positioning Ethereum as a core, long-duration asset rather than a trading instrument.
At current prices, the company’s Ethereum treasury is valued at roughly $11.9 billion. If fully staked, it would become one of the largest single sources of on-chain staking rewards in the Ethereum ecosystem.
Long-term conviction in Ethereum’s role
Bitmine chairman Tom Lee has repeatedly emphasized Ethereum’s long-term potential, citing tokenization as a major catalyst for growth. Speaking recently, Lee said he believes Ethereum could reach between $7,000 and $9,000 by early 2026, driven by growing institutional interest in bringing real-world assets onto blockchain infrastructure.
According to Lee, major financial players are increasingly focused on tokenizing assets, a trend he argues plays directly to Ethereum’s strengths. Over time, he has suggested that Ethereum could challenge traditional payment and settlement systems, pushing valuations significantly higher.
Lee also addressed recent market volatility, describing it as a liquidation-driven reset similar to previous downturns. He said such corrections are often necessary for markets to regain stability before the next growth phase.
While Bitmine’s initial staking allocation represents only a fraction of its overall holdings, the move signals a clear shift toward yield generation and long-term participation in Ethereum’s Proof-of-Stake economy. If expanded, the strategy could materially influence both Bitmine’s balance sheet and the broader staking landscape.
