The knockout venues for the T20 World Cup 2026 are now officially locked in — and India will host all three decisive matches.
With Pakistan and Sri Lanka eliminated following Saturday’s Super 8 results, the contingency venue-sharing agreement involving Colombo is no longer required. As a result, both semi-finals and the final will take place in India, culminating in the title clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on March 8.
The revised hosting structure reflects a pre-tournament agreement between the ICC, PCB, BCCI, and Cricket Sri Lanka that hinged on whether Pakistan or Sri Lanka advanced to the semi-finals.
How the Venue Agreement Worked
Under the original arrangement, Colombo was guaranteed at least one semi-final if either Pakistan or Sri Lanka qualified for the knockout stage. If both had progressed, Pakistan’s semi-final would have been staged in Colombo on March 4, while Sri Lanka’s would have been played in Mumbai on March 5.
Had only one of the two reached the final four, Colombo would still have hosted one semi-final.
However, with both teams exiting in the Super 8 stage — despite Pakistan’s dramatic five-run win over Sri Lanka — that clause is void. The knockout phase now shifts entirely to Indian venues.
Eden Gardens in Kolkata will host the first semi-final on March 4. The Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai will stage the second semi-final on March 5. The final is set for March 8 in Ahmedabad.
Where Will India Play?
India’s semi-final scenario remains dependent on their final Super 8 match against West Indies.
If India qualify, they will play their semi-final at the Wankhede Stadium on March 5. A top finish in Group 1 could set up a clash with New Zealand, while a likely second-place finish behind South Africa would mean a showdown with England.
However, all permutations hinge on India securing victory in their final Super 8 fixture.
If India Miss Out
Should India fail to reach the semi-finals and West Indies progress instead, the bracket becomes straightforward.
South Africa would face New Zealand in the first semi-final at Eden Gardens on March 4. England would meet West Indies in Mumbai on March 5.
In that scenario, the final would still take place in Ahmedabad, with no further venue adjustments required.
A High-Stakes Finish Awaits
With Pakistan and Sri Lanka eliminated, the tournament now moves into a streamlined knockout phase hosted entirely in India. The Narendra Modi Stadium — the world’s largest cricket venue — is poised to stage the final, ensuring a massive stage for the 2026 champions.
All that remains is the final round of Super 8 action to determine who takes the last remaining spots — and who earns the right to compete in Mumbai and Ahmedabad for the biggest prize in T20 cricket.
